Correlation Between Body Temperature & Fat Loss

A pair of new studies suggest subtle tweaks to the thermostat can ramp up fat-burning – in a similar way to the uncomfortable extremes people subject them to for the same effect (ice baths, polar plunges, cryotherapy etc.).

Being cold engages the body’s “fight or flight” sympathetic nervous system (1), which subsequently triggers brown fat into action, oxidizing calories for energy, and later body fat stores, to keep you ticking along. But this new research suggests you don’t have to go streaking down Portage & Main on a frigid evening in January to get that effect, just turn down the thermostat a few notches.

Try to win a heating bill argument with the significant other with that one, but tread with caution (and don’t identify me as your source).
