Training for Your First Tough Mudder

The bulk of my training over the past 13+ years has been focused on bodybuilding.

In other words, training that focused primarily on looking good and building strength first and foremost, while keeping functionality a priority but not the be all, end all.

But if your goal is to complete a Tough Mudder obstacle course in the near future, training like a bodybuilder is not the best way to prepare you for race day. Since completing one is on my bucket list, I’m modifying my training some over the next couple months to better prepare for a hybrid endurance event (called Mud Hero in July).

I’ll be training using the SpecForce Alpha training program. It’s primarily focused on bodyweight workouts, but have had a few buddies in the industry vouch for its effective fat loss and endurance capacity.  It’s designed by a Swat Team Commander who’s still in active duty.

Now, how do you go about preparing for a Tough Mudder obstacle course outside of the gym?
